Parker and the Arts
At Parker Academy, the arts are an essential part of how students learn, communicate, and build confidence. Many of our students find that expressing themselves through music or visual art comes more naturally than using words, and the arts provide a powerful way for them to share ideas, emotions, and identity in a safe, supported environment.
Students participate in art and/or music classes daily, and many choose to engage in both. Through these classes, students explore creativity, take risks, and practice perseverance while developing skills that carry over into other areas of learning. The process matters as much as the product — showing up, trying something new, and building confidence over time are central to our approach.
The arts are also a way we build community at Parker. Each year, students participate in meaningful creative projects such as our Empty Bowls program, which combines art-making with community service, and we celebrate student work through two Nights of the Arts, where families and community members are invited to see, hear, and experience what students have created.
At Parker, the arts are not just enrichment — they are a pathway to communication, self-expression, and growth. They give students a voice when words are hard to find and a place to step outside their comfort zone while knowing they are supported every step of the way.
