Academics at Parker Academy
At Parker Academy, we believe that all students can learn when they feel safe, regulated, and understood. Many of our students arrive after struggling to access learning in traditional school environments. These experiences can lead to anxiety, avoidance, or a lack of confidence around academics. Our approach is designed to rebuild trust in the learning process by creating an environment where students feel supported, capable, and ready to engage. We offer small class sizes (typically 3–6 students per class), allowing teachers to differentiate instruction and respond to a wide range of learning styles, needs, and strengths. All Parker Academy teachers hold current New Hampshire teaching licenses or certifications, and instruction is aligned with NH Department of Education standards for middle and high school students.
Diploma & Academic Pathways
Parker Academy offers a full academic program leading to a 21-credit Parker Academy high school diploma, aligned with NH Department of Education requirements. Students attending Parker through a special education placement may be working toward a diploma from their sending school; diploma type, credit transfer, and course sequencing are determined collaboratively by the IEP team during the admissions process. Courses generally meet daily for one hour and may run for a full year (1 credit) or a semester (.5 credit), with occasional quarter-credit courses offered to meet specific interests or needs. Our curriculum is both rigorous and flexible, allowing students to build skills while progressing at an appropriate pace.

How Learning Looks at Parker
Our classrooms are intentionally designed to reduce anxiety and increase engagement. Because traditional worksheets and tests can be stressful or limiting for many students, we use a variety of ways to assess knowledge — including projects, discussions, presentations, hands-on work, and real-world applications of skills. Learning at Parker is multimodal, blending direct instruction with experiential, community-based, and hands-on activities that make academics feel relevant and accessible.
Students typically do not receive homework at Parker. We structure the school day so that academic work can be completed during school hours, allowing evenings to be spent on rest, family time, activities, and overall wellness.

Preparing for Life After Parker
High school students receive transition planning support tailored to their goals, whether they are college-bound, career-bound, or exploring multiple pathways. Students participate in college visits, career exploration, and job shadowing opportunities to help them make informed decisions about their next steps. Students may also participate in the CRTC (Career and Technical Education) Program through Concord High School, which allows eligible students to explore hands-on career training while earning academic credit. [Insert link to CRTC program here] College-bound juniors and seniors may be asked to take on independent academic work as part of their preparation for post-secondary expectations, with support from teachers and advisors.
Challenging Students with Support
We believe in challenging students — and supporting them every step of the way. By combining strong relationships, small classes, skilled teachers, and flexible instructional methods, we help students re-engage with learning, build confidence, and experience success academically and personally.
At Parker, academics are not just about content — they’re about helping students rediscover themselves as learners.
My child is treated as a person, not just a number being pushed through a system. The staff incorporate my child into the decision making process, which helps to ensure that they are heard and part of the solution. The teachers are able to modify the curriculum to meet his needs, and he often doesn't even realize he's learning something new.
